Travel Day to Tamale

Sunday, July 12th.

Didn't sleep too well and woke up to Obed talking to someone on his cell at 5am, an hour before the alarm. After breakfast they loaded our luggage up in the pickup truck and us into the van. Unfortunately they took up the back seat of the van with some of our luggage, so we were cramped and it became hot and uncomfortable as the day progressed. Anyway, we drove to the GNAT offices where we met up with the rest of the convoy. The drive was very long but the roads were in good shape. Every time you enter or are driving through towns there is a gauntlet of speed bumps, some of which are big and bounce the people in the back seats out of their seats. We stopped for lunch at a restaurant in Kumasi. Then we continued on to Tamale. The weather was beautiful, hot and sunny until the last two hours when it clouded over and rained. I spent the day trying to take photos out of the windows of the endlessly fascinating scenes we pass, but that is really hit or miss. We talked, listened to some of Brenda's music and dozed off and on. We finally arrived at our hotel, the Miriam, in Tamale just after dark at 7pm. Turned out they had some single rooms so Diane grabbed those for her and I and by default Obed and Marie get their own too. We met up right after checking in and had dinner together in the hotel restaurant. Then back to the rooms to get organized, e-mail and get some much needed sleep.
